Parsons Two Drawer Coffee Table

Out of stock

Parsons

Inspiration: Early 20th century office and workshop furniture. An appreciation for these functional and simple designs that can stand in contrast with today’s modern interior design.

Description: Most of the pieces incorporate the classic Parsons design of right angles and square posts. The simple box on stand was also a design feature of the Parsons style. Trendy, functional and practical are the key words to describe this group. Key pieces in this collection are the repurposed printer’s cabinet/hutch that incorporates a vintage wire mesh with ample storage drawers and shelves. The hutch sits atop the media console as well as the writing desk. The long narrow wood bench is also unique in that it can be used as a cocktail or as a multi- purpose piece at the foot of the bed or under window storage.

Finish: The wood finish has a clean repurposed quality as if once painted and the paint then removed and wood appreciated for its natural beauty. Shades of taupe and grey can be seen in the subtle tone shifts. Hardware and metal color is oiled bronze.

Materials: The Parsons collection is made with Pine veneers and Poplar solids. The desk chair is in a combination of distressed bonded leather and natural woven fabric. The overall feel of the materials is to appear as if they were vintage and well used but cleaned up for today’s eclectic lifestyles.

About Hammary

In October 1943, after eight years working with furniture manufacturers in the Carolinas and Virginia as a sales representative of the Reliance Varnish Company and Central Glass Company, Hamilton Louden Bruce decided to try his hand at furniture manufacturing. Leasing a small building for $15.00 per month, he hired two helpers and started to manufacture canvas covered lawn chairs. Production amounted to 24 chairs a day. The company derived its name from Hamilton (Ham) and his wife, Mary (mary), therefore Hammary.

Late in 1947, Mr. Bruce dropped the lawn chair line and began to manufacture a group of occasional tables. With a briefcase full of sketches, Mr. Bruce made a quick tour of Eastern retail furniture outlets and came home with $200,000 in orders... this before the first sample tables were made at the plant. In 1948, the company started producing mahogany and gum tables with leather and mahogany tops, shifting the next year to leather tops exclusively with all genuine Honduras mahogany.

Today, Hammary offers a variety of styles in living room tables, chairside tables, home office furniture, home entertainment furnishings and wide range of accent furniture from the Hidden Treasures collection.
